Wilderness Skills Trainer

The Wilderness Skills Trainer has the overall objective of preparing cadets to live effectively and efficiently out of a backpack without modern facilities in a variety of environments. Their trainings responsibilities will take place primarily within defined time blocks with specific objectives. They may occasionally be asked to partner with other trainers in multifaceted trainings or to join planning meetings to give advice within their field.      

Main Training Objectives

  • Summer backpacking and camping skills  
  • Winter wilderness travel and camping skills
  • Introduction to survival skills such as foraging, fire starting without matches, emergency shelters, finding safe water sources, etc.  
  • Navigation and route finding
  • Terrain assessment and safety  

Qualifications

  • Team player – Hungry, Humble, Smart
  • Strong commitment to the values and culture of Chazak Academy
  • Good understanding of wilderness skills and experience in outdoor living
  • Experiential based training skills  
  • Event planning skills

Compensation:  

We cannot offer this as an immediate paid position. There is currently no budget for this position. We are continuing our search with the understanding that a potential hire would either need to:
-Wait to start until funding is available,
-Raise their own support,
-Work as a volunteer until funding is available.


We are open to making a hire with the understanding of a delayed start date.
