On 28 November, government officials confirmed that flooding has killed 120 people in Kenya and displaced over 500,000 people. The flooding, largely caused by heavy rainfall tied to El Nino weather conditions, which has been ongoing since late October, has affected 38 of Kenya's 47 counties, with the eastern Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties most impacted. High levels of rainfall are forecast to continue over southern parts of Kenya, though reducing in intensity through to 4 December. However, further bouts of heavy rainfall remain a realistic possibility going into January 2024. This will drive the threat of further flooding into 2024, disrupting recovery efforts and prolonging disruption to overland movement, supply chains and energy security. Flood damage will compound food security challenges caused by five consecutive failed rainy seasons, increasing pressure on aid agencies
